Every man and women would wish to have sparkling white teeth and a smile they can show with pride. But that is a reality for most of us, sooner or later there is discoloration of the teeth and this causes great embarrassment. Hence, today there is a cosmetic treatment that whitens the teeth and improves your appearance.

Teeth whitening are a process where bleaches and other agents are used to make the teeth look whiter by removing the stains from the surface of teeth. The discoloration and the stains that make the teeth lose the original white shade of the enamel is caused due to excess of drinking coffee, tea or smoking. The main agents that fasten teeth whitening are namely the following:

Whitening Toothpastes are often used to remove the patches and surface stains as they have mild abrasive elements in their composition. Some toothpastes also have chemical agents that lightly polish the teeth and hasten the removal of stains. These products do not have bleach in them

Whitening Rinses are the most modern teeth-whitening agents available today. They help to reduce plaque, bad breath, gum diseases and whiten the teeth. They have hydrogen peroxide that whitens the teeth. These are simple mouthwashes and are to be used for only few seconds and therefore not so effective as other whitening agents.

Over the counter whitening strips and gels are considered to be more effective. The gels have peroxide based gel that is applied directly on the teeth surface twice a day to get proper results and that is visible within a few days and lasts for about 4 months. Whitening strips are not visible and are very thin. The covering of the strips contain peroxide based gel that whitens teeth. These strips should be used twice daily for 30 minutes for a span of 2 weeks

Tray –based tooth whiteners are available over the counters or from dentists. A tray containing peroxide bleaching solution has to be worn generally for 2 hours a day and later regularly at night for about 1 month or longer if the teeth are badly discolored.

In-office whitening is the quickest way to get back the sparkling white teeth that you so desire. It is applied directly to the teeth surface in combination with heat or laser. You will see the difference within an hour of the treatment. Since it works so fast this technique of teeth whitening is expensive.

Using any of the teeth whitening agents is no doubt easy but one must consult the dentist before using them and know whether it is suitable for his/her teeth or not.
