Each summer the western United States has seen increasingly damaging wildfires that have spread all across California, Nevada, Colorado and many other states in which extreme weather and dry climates mix together. There’s no doubt about it that wildfires are one of the most drastic natural disasters, and that’s why it’s important to understand how wildfires begin, so you can better manage avoiding these situations throughout your own daily lives.

We’re very lucky to have teamed up with one of the leading fire damage law firms in the United States, the Singleton Law Firm, to help us in terms of collaborating on this article that specifies 7 common causes of wildfires, so here they are!

Unattended campfires

Everyone loves to have a fire while camping no matter what time of year it is, but in the summer months campfires can be pretty dangerous. When a campfire is left unattended it can be one of the main causes of wildfires, so it’s always extremely important to take extra precautionary measures when you’re out in the forest camping and enjoying a fire.

Burning debris

A lot of times people burn certain types of debris, including dead trees, for purposes like landscaping and just getting rid of unwanted things. Sometimes these fires can get out of control way too quickly, and sometimes these fires are not following statewide procedures either. It’s important to make sure you get a burning permit for these kinds of fires.

Cigarettes

It may be a little bit crazy, but sometimes when a cigarette is discarded it can create a very serious wildfire, and it’s important for everyone to remember that wildfires only need a tiny spark to get going, so cigarette butts can create a tremendous risk and destroy the environment.

Vehicles

A lot of people love doing road trips in the summer months out west, but so many people don't realize that forest fires are caused by cars a lot. So it’s important to always do a safety check on your car before you head out into the wilderness on a road trip.

Fireworks

Fireworks have always been a major cause of wildfires for many years, and this is partly because of the popularity of fireworks in the summer months. They are also widely available to everyone, even if fireworks are illegal in your home state. Always, always, always be careful when playing with pyrotechnics of any kind.

Lightning

Lightning is simply a part of Mother Nature, and the fact of the matter is that a big lightning storm in the summer months will have hotter bolts, which are also longer and more likely to start a fire.
