Having a picnic at seaside with family and children is always fun. However, if you have a child with limited mobility, should you be staying at home?

When you plan a picnic you do some preparations and when you have children with special needs you need to do some special arrangements – after all they also wish to enjoy at seaside.

Usually, you carry food, chairs and some sports goods when going on a beach, but going there with children with a disability needs some extra preparations, which are vital for spending a quality time at beach.

Keep Their Favorite Snacks

Children being choosy about food may not eat the food you prepare. Also, they may feel hungry at odd timings. In both cases, some snacks would satisfy their hunger pangs and uplift their mood as well. However, it is important to keep snacks that are their favorite.
You can keep their favorite fruits, juice boxes, chips, sandwiches, baked pies, etc.

Keep First Aid Box

Picnic on a beach is very exciting for children. However, it is important to keep an eye on them since they can hurt themselves either by falling or while playing. Also, some sea creatures on the shore may hurt them by biting them which could cause so much pain.

Keeping your eyes peeled can help, but in case your child gets hurt or gets any wound, you should have a first aid box with you. Carrying an antiseptic, bandages and painkiller is mandatory.

Keep Extra Clothes

Children’ clothes may get dirty or wet while playing on a beach. Wearing them for a long time may cause irritation. Thus, it is important that you keep extra clothes.
Also, keep towels and some warm clothes too since it often gets nippy on the beach and such clothes will keep them from catching cold.

Keep Board Games

Creating things out of sand may exhaust them which leads to boredom. To cheer them up, keep some interesting board games in your picnic basket and join them. Involvement of a family in a disabled child’s activity is crucial.

Don’t Forget to Arrange Electric Scooter/Wheelchair

Just like a healthy body makes one active, mobility aides like electric scooter and electric wheelchair are important for children with limited mobility. They allow children to move freely and give a sense of independence. Being independent, they are able to enjoy more and do things they like.

Mobility aides are provided as rentals, and one can purchase them too.

Outing and picnics are a great way to refresh and energize yourself. However, while you have many options to enjoy, children with limited mobility rely on mobility aides and your support to have fun. Therefore, whenever you plan a picnic on beach, arrange the aforementioned things and make their day memorable.
