So, you are driving down the road, on your way to meet up with some friends to get some dinner and to catch a movie. The next thing you know a small light catches your attention out of the corner of your eye. It is an orangish yellow color and shaped like an engine or maybe it shows the shape of an engine along with the word "check". Either way, it is time to call your mechanic. This notification light is called the check engine light.
The OBD system, or the Onboard Diagnostic of the emissions components signals the check engine light to illuminate. Your vehicle's performance is controlled by computers in your car. The transmission shifting, the RPM (speed of the engine), ignition timing and fuel mixtures are some of the necessary workings of the Onboard Diagnostics system.
If there are problems within any of systems, the check engine light will light up to notify you of an issue. There are numerous emissions related problems that could be the culprit causing the light up of the check engine light.
> Loose gas cap
> O2 (Oxygen sensor) problems
> Catalytic convertor
> Spark plugs and/or spark plug wires
> MAF ( Mass Airflow ) sensor

The best way to diagnose the cause is by taking your vehicle to your mechanic. They can perform a code reading scan to assist you. Once the mechanic has pinpointed the trouble spot, set up an appointment to have the mechanic fix it. www.ShiffletAutoCare.com
