Merchant & Rhoades was originally open in 1989 as "Truefitt & Hill Chicago" by the late Kirk Merchant. In 2013, the Merchant family decided to change the company name in his honor. "Merchant" is the family name, and "Rhoades" is the maiden name of Kirk's wife Patrice. Today the entire Merchant family is actively involved in the business including Kirk's eldest son, and second-generation barber, Kirk.
