Restaurant Description
Lalo's has opened its newest location in the other house that Michael built, Michael Jordan's Restaurant. The walls have been painted and Mexican artifacts now hang where jerseys and trophies used to be. The only remnants of the former tenant are the tile floor in the lobby (it still says Michael Jordan's), and the wall sculpture of number 23 outside the banquet room. The glass enclosed space where M.J. held court is now used for overflow from the dining room or for private parties. The former retail shop off the lobby currently looks like the rest of the restaurant, but plans are in the works to create a "Lalo's Lounge" with couches and a more intimate feel. The main bar still has the huge wall of televisions, but ESPN has been replaced with salsa and Latin pop videos. Mariachis serenade diners Wednesday through Sunday nights. The menu focuses on traditional Mexican dishes such as tacos, tortas, burritos, tamales and tortas. House specialties include lomo de res en chile de arbol (chopped ribeye steak simmered in chile sauce), tinga de camarones (grilled shrimp served on a bed of tomatoes, sliced onions and chipotle peppers) and coctel de camaron (shrimp cocktail in a light tomato sauce with diced onions, avocado and cilantro). Appetizers include nachos, sopes, queso fundido and a combination platter. Margaritas are the drink of choice, available in lime, tropical, strawberry, mango and guava flavors. A menu of lunch specials is available from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and breakfast is offered all day.
Best Known For...
The name "Lalo's" has become synonymous with "Margaritas." It is no surprise that margaritas are the specialty here.
