Lake Murray Real Estate Update 01-14-2011

Will new year bring new license? Three years of intense discussions ended in July of 2009 with the signing of a comprehensive settlement agreement between SCE & G, agencies and other stakeholders. The agreement which specified how the Saluda River Project will be managed for the next 30 to 50 years, was filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in August 2009 as part of the company’s application for a new license to operate the project. But since that time, the application has been put on hold until concerns about impacts to the endangered species short nose sturgeon are resolved.

Boats gather for New Years Day Ice Bowl Regatta – The 2011 Ice Bowl Regatta 14 boats gathered to sail in the 2nd Annual New Years Day ICE BOWL Regatta. The weather really gave the sailors great conditions with temps approaching 70, the ice from the last week of 2010 was nowhere in sight! Good breezes and wind shifts were the rule of the day. It was great fun both to watch and participate and a great way to bring in the New Year.

District 5 board opts to delay school expansion- Lexington – Richland District 5 can move ahead with a Chapin High expansion project if it chooses, but has opted instead to wait until two athletic fields planned for the school clear a legal hurdle. The school board’s decision to put off construction of a new academic building goes against the advice of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which must approve construction projects that impact wetlands. The Corps regards the academic building and athletic fields as separate projects, and says a delay in approval of the athletic fields doesn’t have to postpone the school expansion.
