When shopping for new replacement windows, homeowners usually come across slider and tilt and turn windows. These two times of windows can be confusing, especially if you don't know much about window types. Tilt and turn windows have a sash that can be turned to a 90-degree angle to its frame. Slider windows, on the other hand, open by sliding and are also common window types in many homes.

Both these window types offer an excellent view of the outside. However, the tilt feature in the tilt and turn windows is intended to make cleaning of the windows easier. Let’s dig deep into each of these window designs, and before you finish reading this, you would have known the difference between them and which one is ideal for your home. 1. Single Slider Windows.

This one is opened horizontally. It has one fixed sash, and the other sash is movable and can be tilted for easy cleaning.

  1. Double Slider Butterfly.

This comes with two sashes that move side by side. One sash or even two can be tilted when cleaning. The main benefit of this tilt and turn window is that you can choose to open one sash or two if you want. This enables you to control the amount of ventilation you need.

  1. End-Vent Tilt Slider Windows.

This one comes with two side sashes and a fixed venting sash at the centre. When you have a wider window opening, this is the ideal option to choose.

  1. Single Hung Windows.

This one is designed to operate vertically. I.e., it is opened upwards and downwards. The upper sash is fixed while the lower sash is operable and moves downwards and upwards. When cleaning, you can tilt it into the room to clean it easily.

  1. Double Hung Windows.

This type of tilt and turn windows come with two sashes that can either be opened up or down. The sashes can also be tilted for easy cleaning. You can also choose to open one sash or both sashes depending on the ventilation you need for your home.

Bear in your mind that although hung and slider windows similarly appear and function the same, they cannot be said to be true tilt and turn windows. The sash in sliding windows is supposed to be pulled inward only when cleaning the windows.

It is not advisable to leave the sash untouched to its position since it may put pressure on the frame and make your windows to dent and in some cases, the window might even break if stress is massive.

Therefore, tilt and turn windows are manufactured bearing that in mind, and also as the user, you should also remember that if you want to increase the lifespan of your windows.
