In 2019, new cars cost an average of $37,185. This is $1,320 more than the average of the previous year! With such cost, it is not surprising that more buyers are choosing used vehicles.

However, if you are interested in selling a car for cash in which you have changed gears over the past few years, now is the time to do it. There is a large market for used cars, and you should take advantage of this to get a good price for your trip. To ensure the best deal, there are a few things you need to do first. So here is the list of four mistakes that people usually do when selling a car.

1. Forget some things inside the car
This may seem obvious, but many car sellers forget about this task. The study shows that the average person forgets about four things a day. During the year, most study participants forgot a whopping 1,400 things.

This makes cleaning all the storage spaces in your car even more important. Firstly, because you may already have forgotten about the things that you put there in the past. Secondly, these things can have sentimental or even financial value for you.

However, be sure to check the cup holders, glove box, center console, and door pockets. Check the spaces between the pillows and look under all the seats. Do not forget to examine the trunk, because there may be important materials, equipment, and automotive fluids.

2. Not detailing the interior
Vacuuming the surface will not be enough. It is better to wash the covers on car seats and floor mats. Clean the air inside your car to get rid of all the odors that have accumulated in it for years. This is one of the most important used car selling hacks that shouldn’t be missed.

The smell of freshly washed seat covers can help reduce the “used” qualities of your car. It may not smell like brand new, but at least the buyers won't smell anything in it. The smell of a clean car interior can help buyers imagine themselves driving a car.

3. Not cleaning the exterior
Many car dealers only view waxing and polishing as “sugar coating.” They think that since they sell used cars, buyers expect their cars to look and feel that way. It is not true. Appearance and cosmetics are still of great importance. Moreover, they may take your car home (and no one wants to drive a dirty car).

Besides, your car may look older due to dirt and buyers may even wonder if there are problems under the hood. Do not let this happen by missing this step on how to sell your car.

4. Using low-quality images for the car ad
81% of Americans now have smartphones, and many of these gadgets can take very beautiful and clear photos. If you have one of these devices, there is no reason to post low-quality photos of your car for sale.

You can take full images of the “body”, images of all four sides, and the interior photos. If your phone can take 360-degree photos, use it to show your car's interiors. Don’t forget to photograph the trunk, the cargo, and what is under the hood.

Of course, you shouldn’t over-edit the photos because the car will look different than it actually is. The best way is to make as many images as possible from different points of view. The better the lighting, the clearer and more accurate the photos will be.
