When we were finally ready to build the custom retirement home we’d planning for years, we were nervous about selecting the “right” builder. After spending quite a bit of time and effort getting recommendations, narrowing our list to 3, and interviewing those builders, we were convinced that all were capable of quality work – and that we would base our decision on some less obvious criteria.
Of course we wanted someone trustworthy and reliable, but our single most compelling reason for choosing Live Oak Builders was our conviction that they had a personal commitment to us and to the success of our home building project. We felt that commitment from day one and we feel it today … 12 months throughout the project and after living in it for six months.
We were also searching for that feeling of being on the same wavelength – the sense that our builder could grasp our vision of the home we wanted to build and offer realistic options and suggestions for getting there. At the end of the day, we wanted the house to feel like “us” – and it does. This is especially remarkable because we were living in another state during the construction, and many of the decisions had to be made by email (thanks for all the help, Lisa!)
Overall, we’re delighted with the quality of workmanship and attention to detail of the on-staff craftsmen and subcontractors, and the willingness of everyone at Live Oak Builders to help us solve problems far beyond what was included on the builder’s estimate. The inevitable glitches have been – and continue to be – addressed to the of our satisfaction.
When you conclude a project of the complexity of building a custom home, and you still feel comfortable stopping by the builder’s office for a quick chat, then we believe you can call the project a success and the friendship is genuine.
