Annual Visit Bridges Generation Gap
ALLENDALE, N.J., Feb. 28, 2011 - Members of the National Honor Society at Northern Highlands Regional High School (back row) recently spent the day with residents at The Atrium, both in Allendale, N.J., as part of an intergenerational community outreach initiative designed to bridge the generation gap between seniors and teenagers.
Each year, students spend the day at the apartment-rental senior living community, interacting with residents, hosting activities and participating in a wide range of specially planned events. Students benefit from the opportunity to learn about history from those who lived it and senior residents like (left to right, seated) Marilyn Reilley, Gerri Thompson and Jay Rulli enjoy the youthful enthusiasm of the next generation.
The Atrium at The Allendale Community for Mature Living hosts on-going intergenerational activities and programs that include music and dance recitals performed by area children and teens as well as visits from local Girl and Boy Scout troops. Civic and community groups are always welcome and can make arrangements by calling Mary Stampleman at (201) 818-7979 or visiting www.allendalecommunity.com.
